As Mother’s Day was just yesterday, I’m coming off of a weekend that was filled with relaxation, lots of family time, but, most of all, incredible food (and a happy tummy!)
My grandma came in from out of town this weekend to celebrate Mother’s Day with us, so it was two days straight of big family meals, which I always love and look forward to! I am truly so grateful to only live minutes away from my mom and dad! We create, cook, and enjoy many meals together and that is something I will never take for granted after living away from home.
Yesterday, my dad smoked ribs on his Traeger and whenever he does this, he always asks me to make up a “Meg-Approved dry rib rub”, as he likes to call it. In other words, a dry rub to use for the ribs that doesn’t contain sugar or any ingredients we don’t know how to pronounce (have you ever read the ingredient list of a spice blend!? This is why I make my own!)
My favourite spices to use are Primal Palate Spices, but I also love to create my own blends, especially when I am in need of a large amount, like when I’m rubbing down several racks of ribs!
The last few times we’ve made ribs, I’ve been using this dry rub recipe that I created several months ago and everyone seems to really love it! So, with summer almost here and grilling season in full force, I wanted to share my go-to dry rib rub recipe with you!

- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tbsp chilli powder
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp sea salt
- Combine all ingredients together in a bowl. Use on ribs or any other meats requiring a dry rub.
